Le père et le frère de Suzanne Merritt sont au front lorsque la guerre éclate, en 1812, entre les forces britanniques et américaines. Suzanne Merritt's father and brother were at the front when the war broke out in 1812 between the British and American forces. Meanwhile in Upper Canada, Suzanne, her sister, and her mother are trying to ensure their own survival. They wait for news of battles and are worried about the fate of the men they love. Suzanne feels torn: her father and brother took the oath of allegiance to the British crown, but her mother and her best friend are both American. However, on the eve of the Battle of Queenston Heights, survival is her only concern.
