Lorsque Flore quitte lorphelinat pour aller rejoindre sa tante et son oncle à Almonte, la jeune fille tire un trait sur son passé pour commencer un nouveau chapitre de sa vie. Avec joie, elle sintègre à sa nouvelle famille et avec sagesse, elle accepte de travailler à lusine de textile de la ville avec sa tante et son oncle. Survient alors un triste événement. Son oncle perd plusieurs doigts à la suite dun grave accident. Senvolent alors son salaire et sa joie de vivre. Flore et sa tante gardent espoir, mais elles nont plus suffisamment dargent pour vivre. Comment la jeune fille peut-elle aider ceux quelle aime à traverser cette épreuve.

Young Flore is happy to leave the orphanage behind and join her aunt and uncle, even though it means working at a textile mill where there is the constant threat of being injured or going deaf.
