Vancouverism

The planning style, now known as Vancouverism, is internationally applauded and imitated. But, as Larry Beasley argues, Vancouverism is much more than a planning style, it is a whole philosophy around how to build sustainable, livable cities, and how to plan from a city from the people out. While laudatory, Larry Beasley is not blind to the challenges Vancouverism has brought to the city, including issues around affordability and housing. In Larry Beasley's words: “what I offer is a fascinating urban story, which I hope anyone might find interesting, of a city that faced the unknown, seized its destiny, and created the future it wanted.” This a book for all those interested in how cities are made, in the urban experience. It will appeal to Vancouverites both new and old as well as city watchers nationally. Larry Beasley is very well connected and will be touring with the book. Events are underway for Vancouver and Toronto with more to follow. To tie in with the Vancouver launch, we will be pitching the book to local radio, newspapers, and magazines, including the Vancouver Sun, The Province, The Georgia Straight, CBC radio, Vancouver magazine, Nuvo, Monte Cristo, and so forth. We will also be sending ARCs to Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Globe and Mail, National Post, Quill and Quire and targeted urbanist and planning publications. We will be going after national radio interviews to tie in with the Toronto launch.
