Toucania

In Toucania, an independent, fearless young woman goes off to explore an island she’s only ever heard about in her grandfather’s tales. Marianne Ferrer’s muted watercolor illustrations are charming and her imagined animals are delightful. Readers will enjoy trying to figure out why things are named as they are (e.g., belicorns are beluga unicorns). Marianne Ferrer is the author and illustrator of The Invisible Garden (Orca), which garnered a starred review in both Kirkus and Canadian Children’s Book News. The French edition of Toucania (M. ed.) was nominated for the Prix des libraires du Québec 2020, youth category 0–5 and was a finalist for the Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Canadian Picture Book Award.
