It is a result of something that was done to us by our families or by other children. We are mistreated, ignored, or controlled in some way, and we fail to reach our desired goals. #2 Jed is a perfect example of the self-destructive nature of lifetraps. He is unable to connect with women, and instead tries to conquer them. The point at which he loses interest is the point at which he has „won. #3 Heather’s anxiety was caused by her parents’ overprotectiveness. She was not able to experience life to its fullest because she was always afraid of something bad happening. #4 The repetition compulsion is the term used to describe the fact that we keep repeating the pain of our childhood in self-defeating ways as adults. These lifetraps are called schemas.
