Shunned

• More than a third of Americans leave the religion they were born into, according to the Pew Research Center’s 2015 Religious Landscape Survey. Anyone who is struck with the challenge of leaving the faith he or she was born into will find support and inspiration in Shunned. • The United States is less religious and more spiritual now than it ever has been; according to the Pew Research Center: “the U.S. population may be becoming more spiritual in certain ways. Altogether, the religiously unaffiliated now account for 23% of the adult population, up from 16% in 2007.” • An average of 50,000 Jehovah’s Witnesses leave the faith each year. All of these people are potential readers of Shunned. • Jehovah’s Witnesses have the lowest retention rate relative to other religious groups in the U.S. From the Pew Research Center: “Among all U.S. adults who were raised as Jehovah’s Witnesses, two-thirds (66%) no longer identify with the group.”
