Front piece with 24-carat gold plating and blue lacquer rings which are hand-applied in elaborate workmanship with several layers - in the style of the death mask of Tutankhamun.
Reconstructed lapis lazuli with an engraved scarab representing life and rebirth inlaid in the end piece of the cap.
The shape of the cap is reminiscent of the headdress of Nefertiti.
All metal parts feature a matte finish and a highly resistant diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating.
Ornate hieroglyphs adorn the barrel of the Pen of the Year 2023: the names of twelve myth-enshrouded ancient Egyptian deities are engraved in the barrel.
