Super Vegito appears during the Majin Buu saga in Dragon Ball Z. Goku and Vegeta decide to merge to take on Super Buu, who had absorbed several of the Z-warriors and had become extremely powerful. The fusion is done with the Pothala Earrings, which is supposed to be a permanent fusion, but due to the magic within Majin Buu, the fusion is undone when Vegito is absorbed by Buu.
